“X marches for justice at the sheriff’s department”

Under threatening skies and a 100' degree heat index Minister Quanell X of the New Black Panther Party led hundreds of supporters in a march from the Harris County Jail at 703 San Jacinto to the Baker St. offices of Harris County Sheriff Tommy Thomas. Thomas has been under pressure to resign because of questionable acts that have occurred in the department under his tenure and they continue, i.e. the attempted deleting of e-mails and charges of brutality upon the inmates as the system continues to teeter on being overcrowded. The march was designed to bring a higher profile to such charges and to bring a halt to such practices of intimidation and brutality that are being documented.

Both McCain and Obama Flip-Flopped on Public Financing

Senator Barack ObamaBarack Obama has taken a terrible beating in the media for reversing himself and rejecting public financing for his presidential campaign. While it is true that the presumptive Democratic nominee, flushed with cash, changed his position, most media outlets are failing to point out that John McCain applied for public financing during the primary and then changed his mind as well.

While the subject of public financing is not a sexy topic, coverage of the subject illustrates how the media continues to hold Obama to a different standard than McCain.

Tyra Banks The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday started off with a win for Tyra Banks in the category of Outstanding Informative Talk Show, which offered one of the more memorable acceptance speeches of the evening.

“They said that ‘The Tyra Banks Show’ would last two weeks and we are entering our fourth season this September,” she told the crowd gathered at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. “I just have a message for everybody out there: When you have a dream, there are going to be so many people out there who tell you you cannot do it, that you are not good enough. And I want you to tell them to kiss your dimply, flat, juicy, bootylicious, skinny, jiggly, saggy, fat ass!”

Johnson, Ryans host “First and Ten Youth Football Mini-Camp”

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and teammate DeMeco Ryans hosted the “First and Ten Youth Football Mini-Camp” for 250 Houston area kids at Butler Stadium.

Kids, ages 6-15 had a fun-filled day working out with NFL players from the Houston Texans in the hot, baking sun. Most of the kids in attendance were from area Boys and Girls Clubs and local area YMCA’s.
